About the fund:
The Markel Diversifying Risk Scholarship supports students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds as they pursue careers in Risk Management and Insurance. By providing financial assistance and mentorship, Markel aims to remove barriers and foster diversity within the insurance industry. The scholarship is designed to help students develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed, while driving inclusivity and diverse perspectives in the future of Risk Management and Insurance.

What’s on offer?
💰 2 Scholarships of £4,000
🤝 Students may have the opportunity to join Markel for a summer internship when their scholarship concludes

Requirements:

• Current Second Year University students
• From a lower socioeconomic background (as defined by the Social Mobility Commission)
• Eligible for UK domestic fees
• Can demonstrate a track record of academic success
• From an underrepresented community in Insurance:
• You describe yourself as a woman or non-binary
• You describe yourself as part of a racial or ethnic minority community
• You describe yourself as LGBTQIA+
• You describe yourself as having a neurodiversity or disability
• Studying full-time at university in one of the following fields:
• Accounting & Finance
• Business, Communications
• Computing & Technology
• Data Science
• Economics
• Humanities
• Mathematics
• Politics
• Social Sciences

Timelines:

• Applications open: 31st March 2025
• Applications close: 23rd May 2025
• Shortlisted applicants notified: 13th June 2025
• Successful students notified: 29th August 2025
